Thursday, Dec 10th at 6:30PM & 7:30PM
The Event: The first meet-up, the Royal City Rumble @ 6:30PM, will feature high intensity efforts of the Monument Avenue Sprint Segment on Richmond's "The Fan Flats". Our second meet-up, the RC After Party @7:30PM, will kick off our Points Classification Contest (Dec 10 - Feb 11). This week's edition will be a road race style event hitting the steep cobbled climbs used in the Richmond 2015 UCI World Champs. The RC After Party is a Rouleur Level Members only event.
The Royal City Rumble: We'll complete 4 and 1/2 laps of Richmond's "The Fan Flats" (= 23.0km, including lead in). We'll roll-out together as a group for the first 2km. When we reaches the 180 at the end of Monument Ave. riders can take off for the Sprint Finish at the Green Banner (@ 2.5km). After the sprint we'll regroup and ride easy to complete the 5km loop. We'll start the next sprint when we get back to the 180. There will be 5 sprints in total. As always, all abilities can join just be prepared to go hard!
I've done some recon for the event. See pics and use this info to create your stem guides:
Route: Richmond's "The Fan Flats" https://zwiftinsider.com/richmond/
Neutral Start: 2.0km* The Neutral Meet-Up Start is VERY different than Zwift races. There is no start "corral" like in Zwift races. When the Meet-Up begins we group-up from the back:
If you're avatar spawned behind the ride leader (Kyle; identified with the yellow arrow) pedal a bit harder to catch up.
If you're avatar spawned ahead of the ride leader you should be coasting or riding at <75W until the ride leader passes you.
Mistake: Don't try to catch up with the first rider on the road. That will pull other riders up ahead and create gaps. Pedal as needed to get into the "Ride Leader Group" and the group will pick up all riders in the Meet-Up as we head towards the Start.
Stick with the ride leader and we'll ride easy to the beginning of the Yorkshire KOM. At that point it's time to drop the hammer. Unlike IRL bike racing we will actually ride easy for the neutral start.
Monument Avenue Sprint: (0.22km) Ending at 2.5, 7.6, 12.7, 17.8 & 22.9km*.
Each lap we'll ride together as a group to the 180 at the end of Monument Ave (= 500m to the Finish of the Sprint). At that point riders can launch off in an attempt to cross the line first. At the conclusion of each sprint we'll regroup as we complete the course lap.
End of Meet-Up: Blue Banner at 23.0km. On 5th and final sprint use the "distance remaining" indicator on the dashboard (blue, bottom right) as the finish is at the Meet-Up Finish (= Blue Banner). This will be very close but slightly different from the Sprint finish (= Green Banner).
*Distances are approximate because every rider's avatar will spawn at a slightly different point on the road. For a fair start we begin with a neutral roll-out and group up from the back. So, please make sure to stick with the ride leader (me) until we reach the 180 at the end of Monument Ave.
The RC After Party: No messing around. Just a straight up race! There will be no neutral start for this event so make sure your cranks are turning when the meet-up begins. We'll race for 7.5km on Richmond's "Cobbled Climbs". The route begins flat and downhill but finishes with the 1-2 punch of Libby Hill KOM and 23rd Street KOM. This event will be the first of our Points Classification Contest where riders score and accumulate points for their performance at the RC After Party meet-ups. In road race style events, such as this, riders are awarded points for their place at the Meet-up Finish (= Blue Banner).
Route details for Richmond's "Cobbled Climbs" are on Zwift Insider here: https://zwiftinsider.com/richmond/
I've recon'd the course for the event. See pics and use this info to create your stem guides:
Start: at Km = 0 (No Neutral)
Libby Hill KOM: (0.64km @6.2%) Beginning at 5.6km* This is a difficult climb that really pitches on the switchbacks. Be ready for a big 1.5 minute effort. 23rd Street KOM: (0.28km @10%) Beginning at 7.1km* Very steep! Hit it with speed.
Finish: Blue Meet-Up Banner at 7.5km. Use the "distance remaining" indicator on the dashboard (blue, bottom right) as the finish is at the Meet-Up Finish (= Blue Banner). This will be very close but slightly different from 23rd Street KOM Finish Banner.
*Distances are approximate because every rider's avatar will spawn at a slightly different point on the road.
A few reminders so that things go smoothly:
Power Ups are fair game!
No TT Bikes. If you need to change bikes you can do so in the game by going into your garage and selecting a road bike.
Get your warm-up/activation done before the meet-up.
Results will show up when you cross the finish and available when viewing your activity in the Companion App.
