The Royal City Rumble: This week's edition will be 3 separate, short meet-ups (each = 3.5km, including lead in). Make sure to RSVP for all 3 meet-ups. Our aim is to preview the Temple KOM that is sure to be a selective part of next Tuesday's Zwift Racing League event. Each meet-up will begin with 0.8km Neutral Start (see below) to assemble our group. Racing begins at the KOM start. Look for the red indicator on the left side of the road in the Makuri Islands. The Blue Meet-up Finish Banner will be our finish line. This will be located just beyond the Polka Dot KOM Banner. Make sure to race all the way to the Blue Banner. As always, all abilities can join just be prepared to go hard!
I've done some recon for the event. See pics and use this info to create your stem guides:
Route: Makuri Island's "See to Tree" https://zwiftinsider.com/makuri/
Neutral Start: 0.8km*. The Neutral Meet-Up Start is VERY different than Zwift races. There is no start "corral" like in Zwift races. When the Meet-Up begins we group-up from the back:
If you're avatar spawned behind the ride leader (Kyle; identified with the yellow arrow) pedal a bit harder to catch up.
If you're avatar spawned ahead of the ride leader you should be coasting or riding at <75W until the ride leader passes you.
Mistake: Don't try to catch up with the first rider on the road. That will pull other riders up ahead and create gaps. Pedal as needed to get into the "Ride Leader Group" and the group will pick up all riders in the Meet-Up as we head towards the Start.
Stick with the ride leader and we'll ride easy to the Red KOM Start Indicator. At that point it's time to
drop the hammer. Unlike IRL bike racing we will actually ride easy (<100 Watts) for the neutral start.
Race Start: @ 0.8km. Look for the red indicator on the left side of the road signifying the KOM segment start.
Temple KOM: (2.5km @3.6%): Finishes at 3.4km*
Race Finish: Blue Meet-Up Finish Banner. Each meet-up will finish at the Blue Meet-up Finish Banner. Race Results will be available upon crossing the banner (there will be no "late-join" this week).
*Distances are approximate because every rider's avatar will spawn at a slightly different point on the road.
A few reminders so that things go smoothly:
Power Ups are fair game!
No TT Bikes. If you need to change bikes you can do so in the game by going into your gara
ge and selecting a road bike.
Get your warm-up/activation done before the meet-up.
Results will show up when you cross the finish and available when viewing your activity in the Companion App.
