London Calling

The Event: The only meet-up this week, the Royal City Rumble @ 6:30PM, will feature short and spicy burns of the final 1km of London Classique. There will be no RC After Party to rest up in preparation for the LPC vs Royal City Race #4 on Saturday ;)


The Royal City Rumble: This week's edition will be 5 laps of London's "Classique" (= 27.5km, including lead in). We'll begin with 4.9km Neutral Start (see below) to assemble our group. We'll "open up" the course for racing at the "1km To Go" Banner. At that point anything goes. We'll hit the sprint segment with speed and race to the Ride London Finish Gantry (= Sprint Segment Finish). After the sprint we'll ride the remainder of the lap very easy to regroup. We'll complete 5 sprints in total. As always, all abilities can join just be prepared to go hard!

Neutral Start: 4.9km*. The Neutral Meet-Up Start is VERY different than Zwift races. There is no start "corral" like in Zwift races. When the Meet-Up begins we group-up from the back:

  • If you're avatar spawned behind the ride leader (Kyle; identified with the yellow arrow) pedal a bit harder to catch up.

  • If you're avatar spawned ahead of the ride leader you should be coasting or riding at <75W until the ride leader passes you.

  • Mistake: Don't try to catch up with the first rider on the road. That will pull other riders up ahead and create gaps. Pedal as needed to get into the "Ride Leader Group" and the group will pick up all riders in the Meet-Up as we head towards the Start.

Stick with the ride leader and we'll ride easy to the Green Lap Start Banner. At that point it's time to drop the hammer. Unlike IRL bike racing we will actually ride easy (<100 Watts) for the neutral start.

Course "Opens": @4.9, 10.3, 15.7, 21.1 & 26.5km*. Racing will begin at the "1km To Go Banner". Any time beyond that you're free to launch your move!

Sprint Start: Look for the green indicator on the side of the road signifying the sprint segment start. Left side in the UK.

Sprint Finish: @ 5.9, 11.3, 16.7, 22.1 & 27.5km* = London Finish Gantry. We'll race to the Lap Finish Banner. You can forget about the Blue Meet-Up Finish Banner this week (ie. no "race results" to enable "late-join").






A few reminders so that things go smoothly:

  • Power Ups are fair game! 

  • No TT Bikes. If you need to change bikes you can do so in the game by going into your garage and selecting a road bike. 

  • Get your warm-up/activation done before the meet-up. 

  • Results will show up when you cross the finish and available when viewing your activity in the Companion App.
