Hot Sprints & Fire Climb

Thursday, February 11th at 6:30 & 7:30PM

The Event: The first meet-up, the Royal City Rumble @ 6:30PM, is one for the sprinters! We'll be targeting 4x the Watopia Sprint Reverse. Our second meet-up, the RC After Party @7:30PM, will be a road race-style event that previews the upcoming Zwift Racing League #6 on Watopia's "Whole Lotta Lava".

The Royal City Rumble: This week's edition will be 3 and 1/2 Laps of Watopia's "Two Bridges Loop" (= 23.8km, including lead in). We'll begin with 1.8km Neutral Start (see below) to assemble our group. We'll "open up" the course on the approach to the sprint start. The race to the Watopia Sprint Rev. Finish will begin when the segment leaderboard pops up on your screen (=0.5km before the segment start). At that point anything goes. We'll hit the sprint segment with speed and race to the Green Banner. After the sprint we'll ride the remainder of the lap very easy to regroup. We'll complete 4 sprints in total. As always, all abilities can join just be prepared to go hard!

Route: Watopia's "Two Bridges Loop"

Neutral Start: 1.8km*. The Neutral Meet-Up Start is VERY different than Zwift races. There is no start "corral" like in Zwift races. When the Meet-Up begins we group-up from the back:

  • If you're avatar spawned behind the ride leader (Kyle; identified with the yellow arrow) pedal a bit harder to catch up.

  • If you're avatar spawned ahead of the ride leader you should be coasting or riding at <75W until the ride leader passes you.

  • Mistake: Don't try to catch up with the first rider on the road. That will pull other riders up ahead and create gaps. Pedal as needed to get into the "Ride Leader Group" and the group will pick up all riders in the Meet-Up as we head towards the Start.

Stick with the ride leader and we'll ride easy to the Green Lap Start Banner. At that point it's time to drop the hammer. Unlike IRL bike racing we will actually ride easy (<100 Watts) for the neutral start. 

Course "Opens": 0.5km BEFORE the Sprint Start. The segment leaderboard will appear on your screen alerting you of the approaching segment.

Sprint Start: @ 2.3, 9.4, 16.5 & 23.6km. Look for the green indicator on the side of the road signifying the sprint segment start.

Sprint Finish: Green Banner. We'll finish all 4 sprints at the Watopia Sprint Rev. Green Finish Banner. There will be NO Blue Meet-Up Finish Banner this week (ie. no "race results" to enable "late-join").

*Distances are approximate because every rider's avatar will spawn at a slightly different point on the road.

RC After Party: There will be no neutral start for this event so make sure your cranks are turning when the meet-up begins. We'll race for 15.8km on Watopia's "Whole Lotta Lava". The circuit includes the climb up the Cat. 4 Volcano KOM, descending immediately and finishing with a sprint at the Volcano Circuit Lap Start/Finish.

Route: Watopia's "Whole Lotta Lava"

Volcano KOM: (3.8km @3.2%) Begins at 6.0km*.

End of Meet-Up: Blue Banner at 15.8km. Use the "distance remaining" indicator on the dashboard (blue, bottom right) as the finish is at the Meet-Up Finish (= Blue Banner). This will be very close but slightly different from the Volcano Circuit Lap Finish (= Black Banner).

A few reminders so that things go smoothly:

  • Power Ups are fair game! 

  • No TT Bikes. If you need to change bikes you can do so in the game by going into your garage and selecting a road bike. 

  • Get your warm-up/activation done before the meet-up. 

  • Results will show up when you cross the finish and available when viewing your activity in the Companion App.
